Last mobility in GreeceLast week from 29th May to 3rd June our school had the opportunity to host the last transnational meeting for the Erasmus plus project “Big issues in small hands”. A group of 29 people (teachers and students) from Estonia, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Poland visited our school, attended classes ,participated in sports and took part in a school trip to two well known villages, Pyrgi and Mesta.
Apart from the school activities our visitors went sightseeing around the island to see the most beautiful aspects of this place such as our medieval villages and a monastery, some of our beaches and most important had a closer look at the unique product of Chios, mastiha. Finally, there was a big closing ceremony at school where the whole school community was shown a presentation of the project activities, listened to young children singing and enjoyed a selection of traditional dances from all partner countries presented by children. It was a great experience for all students, parents and teachers to realize how many things we can achieve with collaboration and hard work.

Peace in the world
Dear all,
Our school will also hold a minute of silence in memory of the victims in Paris tomorrow 17th November which is a school day devoted to our university students who rebelled against the military junta in 1974 and they were attacked by army tanks while they were in the university premises. At this point, I have to add that we pray for victims every day as we have thousands of refugees from Syria every day arriving from the Turkish coast and among them babies with their mothers dying as they can't swim. Our island and all the islands on the borders suffer as we realise that after a while, we won't be able to afford so many people in need. They desperately need food, clothes and most of all hope! May the future become better for all people on Earth. Tonia |

Tiles How to play
For this game we need two teams, seven flat stones to put on top of each other (to make a pile) and a ball. The first player tries to hit the pile of stones with the ball. If the first player fails to hit the pile, the second player takes its turn to hit the pile and so on. When a player manages to hit the pile ,the rest of the players of his/her team run towards the pile and the players of the other team try to prevent them from building the pile again by hitting them with the ball. They pass the ball to each other and those who are hit, get out of the game. If the members of the first team manage to build the pile in one minute, they get a point and it’s the other team's turn to try hitting the pile. |

Elections
According to schedule of the European programme Erasmus plus named “Big issues in small hands” in which our school is involved, the students of D,E and F classes voted for their first time to choose eleven representatives for their school council. The council will represent all students and will take into consideration their proposals. In this council there are four representatives from F class, four from E class and three from D class. The elections took place on 3rd December 2014.
Activities before the elections
Brainstorm with the word “rights”. Discussion on the rights and ways to stand up for them. Conclusions showed that in schools students’ representation is the best way to get involved and defend your rights. The idea of a school council came up.
The students divided in small groups walked around the school and wrote down the problems of their school which could be solved without money.
In order to understand what a good school council is, the students took part in several games and activities in classes aiming to realize the importance of their role and the criteria on which they should choose their representatives.
One of the games was to choose the ‘yes’, ‘no’ and ‘mavbe’ corner according to their answers to the questions about which subjects could be discussed in a school council.
Some students wrote and delivered their speeches in the school assembly and others prepared posters to promote themselves.
After the elections
The students were taken interviews in which they expressed their impressions and feelings after the experience of school elections.

Logo competition :Big issues in small hands (BISH)
Today Monday 6 October 2014 our students prepared the Greek logo for our project BISH. All the students voted for their favourite logo after they were informed by their teachers about the plans and the aims of this project. They were motivated by the question which is the main issue in our project: What are children able to do although adults do not believe in them?
The teachers appointed a committee of three members to choose the best three logos, one of which will represent the school in the logo competition among our European partners.
